Warm Weather Hair Color Tips
From Brad Johns, Red Door Hair Color Director
The weather is getting warmer and it’s time to think about your hair color being lighter.
1. Spring is a lighter, brighter season and your hair should match it. When lightening your hair color, it doesn’t have to be as light as the middle of summer. Your hair color should be four distinct colors for the four seasons.
2. Hair color should always complement eye color, skin color, time of the season, and your career – in that order. Keep that in mind every season.
3. If you’re confused about what your hair color should look like for spring, find a picture of your hair in the spring time when you were child. That’s the color it should be.
4. If you’re going on a spring break, alert your colorist and ask questions about taking care of your hair color while on vacation. Will you be in the sun a lot? Taking a dip in the pool? Your colorist will let you know what to bring with you whether it’s heavy conditioners or chlorine removing shampoo.
5. Hair color is the icing on the cake - the cake being the cut. If you totally change your haircut, you can’t keep the same color or highlights. Make sure your hair color goes with your haircut whether you’re planning a small or drastic change.
6. Just because a single color look is on the runway, doesn’t mean it will look good in the office. When I give my clients single-process color I put in a set of invisible highlights that I take off right away to give a slight multi-tone so it doesn’t look like a wig.
7. Hair color and hairstyling are not an impulse purchase. Think about, plan, and consult with your colorist and hair stylist way before you do it. Or at least have something in mind when you arrive for your appointment and consult then. Tell your colorist or stylist, “I was thinking of these looks for spring, what do you think?”
8. If you’re confused about what your new look should be, bring in 3 pictures you love, 3 pictures you hate and ask your colorist his opinion before you give him yours. Successful hair color comes from the marriage of what you want and what your colorist thinks you should have artistically and seasonally.
9. A consultation that lasts more than 5 minutes sounds like a bad date. Your colorist should be able to translate your thoughts into a look that works for you. If you aren’t seeing eye to eye, have a consultation with another colorist at your salon. Consultations with Brad and all other Red Door stylists and colorists are complimentary.
10. After you’ve had a few drinks with the girls, don’t stop by the drugstore and pick up a box of hair color. Drinking and coloring don’t mix! I’ve salvaged many women from a night out with the girls. Go to the drugstore and buy a face mask but please don’t buy hair color….leave that to us.

Tips For Summer Skincare
From Cornelia Zicu, Chief Creative Officer
Tanning:
We all know that the sun is your skin’s number #1 enemy. But, shunning it entirely has several negative aspects including: pallid skin, loss of vitamin D, and translucent skin (visible appearance of blood vessels and imperfections). Whether you are at the beach, gardening or just going for a walk, when spending time in the sunlight always remember to wear sunscreen. And instead of using unsafe tanning beds when you don't have enough time to get color the safe and natural way, we recommend self tanning applications that are applied professionally in our spa. Self tanning is a treatment not exclusively for summer but for all seasons.
Great Tip: Exfoliating your skin before a self tanning treatment will help your tan look natural and last the longest. Microdermabrasion, a chemical peel, and laser resurfacing are all great ways to exfoliate and boost your skin's complexion on their own and before a self tanning treatment.
Sun Protection:
If you know that you are going to be spending a lot of time outside, using a makeup with SPF alone will not be enough to protect your skin. It is important to use a day SPF moisturizer before your makeup and then apply makeup with UVA and UVB coverage (to double your protection). Do not forget to protect your skin's high risk areas such as the ears, eyelids, lips, and the backs of your hands and neck. These areas are easy to miss and they need more attention than the face because they do not contain oil glands to protect them. Applying a high SPF to these areas is ideal. And remember, if you are in the sun for many hours during the day don't forget to reapply your SPF. One application will not protect you the entire day.
Hair Styles For Spring
From Zahir Ziani, National Creative Director
• We have the tendency to neglect our hair during the spring and summer so consider refreshing your hair with a shorter style in the spring.
• For those most audacious women, short cuts offer a lot of versatility by using product and styling the cut in different ways. Ask your stylist for fresh ideas.
• Afraid of a shorter haircut? Think about adding some longer layers to give a different look and attitude.
• Curls and wavy hair will make a comeback this spring. Add sexy volume with Davines Universal Flattering Mousse and glamorous shine with Davines Finest Oil Non Oil.
• Coloring is also a good way to get a new look without cutting off your length. Try adding a few highlights around your face to brighten it up. The Balayage technique is perfect for giving a natural, sun-kissed look.
• Complement your new look with some new clothes to feel younger and fresh.
