Makeup Tips For Winter
From Lindsay Ebbin, National Makeup Director
1. To make your eyes look bigger, accent the brows by applying a lighter shade in white or vanilla below the brows. Use a silver or gold eyeshadow to create a more festive shimmery look.
2. Pucker up! For lipstick that lasts and doesn’t bleed, apply a fixative such as the Elizabeth Arden Lip-Fix Cream, line your whole lip and fill it in, then add the lipstick color of your choice.
3. Picture perfect smile: To avoid lip gloss or lipstick on your teeth, put a clean finger in your mouth after applying the gloss or lipstick and close. Then slowly pull out your finger.
4. For a dewy look on your cheeks, apply a shimmer over your blush or cheek color only. For an all over dewy look, apply a heavier moisturizer and a primer and then a sheer foundation such as Custom Color or Elizabeth Arden Sheer Lights Illuminating Tinted Moisturizer.
5. Dust your body with sparkling powder such as Elizabeth Arden Pretty over your neck and chest area to create a festive look.
6. Always carry cotton swabs in your purse to clean build up around the corner of your eyes. Works like a charm!
7. Use Elizabeth Arden Crystal Clear Lip Gloss with spearmint flavor to help freshen your breath.
8. Red lip color exudes holiday magic and richness. Apply a clear gloss over it and get those luscious lips.
9. For gorgeous lashes, curl your eyelashes prior to applying mascara that thickens lashes such as Elizabeth Arden Double Density Mascara in black.
Top 6 Cold Weather Skincare Tips
From Cornelia Zicu, Chief Creative Officer
1. Change with the season: The beauty products that you use during the spring and summer may not meet your needs during the winter. I advise scheduling a facial appointment with your favorite Red Door esthecian to see which products you should be using in your home routine to achieve maximum results.
2. Use a humidifier: Humidifiers allow your skin to absorb moisture from the air while you sleep or spend a lot of time working in your office. For better results, you can add a few drops of hydrating essential oil such as (geranium, rose, lavender) in your humidifier. If you spend a lot of time driving, you can add hydrating essential oil to your car ventilation system as well.
3. Limit hot showers & baths: During the winter time, run warm water in your shower or bath and limit the amount of time you spend. Apply a hydrating moisturizing spray like the Villa Floriani Satin Body Spray on damp skin before you towel dry. This will penetrate better into the skin leaving it soft for a longer period of time. People who have rosacea or sensitive skin should be very careful and never use very hot water on their face or body.
4. Wear SPF 15 or more all year round: Winter is the season when a lot of us cannot wait to participate in snow related activities such as skiing. Due to winter snow, the sun's reflection can damage unprotected skin worse than any other time. The sun can damage skin even on days that are not sunny and warm, so remember to wear SPF 365 days a year. A great choice is the PREVAGE® Ultra Protection Anti-Aging Moisturizer SPF 30.
5. Do not forget your hands: Hands are very exposed in the winter so remember to wear gloves and a very potent anti-aging hand cream such as Eight Hour Cream Intensive Moisturizing Hand Treatment. For people that have extremely dry hands it is very good to apply a deeply hydrating moisturizer in the evening and wear cotton gloves while you sleep.
6. A Beautiful scarf to cover your scalp: On a very cold day be sure to cover your head and not just your ears. An unprotected scalp can damage hair roots, creating hair loss. The cold weather can over dry your scalp and create flakiness. An unhealthy scalp will cause unhealthy looking hair that will split easily and faster than normal.
